Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of sponsoring Bogan's Talk | an afternoon of honest conversation about Chinese and Australian workplace culture, held right here in Brisbane.
The conversation covered the things most of us never say out loud at work. How we communicate. How we give and receive feedback. And all the small, invisible habits we assume everyone else does the same way.
The thing we keep thinking about is this: most "difficult" workplace moments aren't about difficult people. They're about different defaults. One person's directness is another person's rudeness. One person's politeness is another person's silence. Nobody in the room was wrong, they'd just learned a different set of unspoken rules, and never had reason to question them until they were sitting across from someone who'd learned a different set. Once you name it, a lot of workplace friction stops feeling personal.
Gennue is a small Brisbane team, and we're picky about what we put our name to, the same way we're picky about what goes into our sachets. Supporting conversations where people leave understanding each other a little better is exactly the kind of thing we want to be part of. Genuine connection is behind everything we do. It's in our name, and it's the reason we started.
Thank you to everyone who came along and shared so openly, and to @teaologylab for keeping everyone's cups full. 💚
