Gentle Wellness Rituals to try in 2026

The New Year is a popular time to reset and pursue personal goals. But New Year's resolutions often fall apart, and research shows that most people don’t stick to their resolution beyond a few weeks.

Reframing your mindset and turning Resolutions into Rituals is an effective way to help new habits stick.

The difference between Resolutions and Rituals |

Rituals are established habits that tend to be positive. Because they are built into our daily routine, rituals are rooted into our lifestyle – they feel simple and we are more likely to stick to them. Even when motivation sways or life challenges us, rituals are practices we are consistent with. The repetition of rituals provides structure and resilience to daily routines which can be deeply grounding. In fact, researchers have found that rituals can be beneficial for stress and mental wellbeing.

Resolutions are firm decisions to do or change something. The problem with setting resolutions is that they are rigid and the outcome is success or failure. Often, we don’t have clear steps on how resolutions will integrate into real life. This rigidity and lack of an action plan can make resolutions stressful, especially when we “fail” to achieve what we’ve set out to do. Resolutions are also more likely to result in an ‘all or nothing mindset’ that relies on willpower alone.

Tips for Building New Rituals

✔️ Keep Rituals Simple|

Resolutions often involve huge changes and massive upheavals which are difficult to sustain. Instead, choose simple rituals that easily fit into your existing routine.

Whether your goal is to drink more water, feel more energised or up your workout routine; small, consistent choices can have a big impact over time (aka The Ripple Effect).

✔️ Attach New Rituals to Existing Habits |

Building better daily habits is easier if you pair it with existing habits that are already ingrained into your routine.

If your goal is to improve sleep quality, pair putting your phone out of sight and turning off lights with brushing your teeth. Adding your new ritual to a familiar habit removes the thinking and effort. It creates structure so that the new ritual feels automatic, even on stressful or low energy days.

✔️ Ease into it |

Whilst it’s tempting to go all in on January 1, slow and steady changes are more likely to last.

The new year is a great time to reflect, refocus and take extra care of yourself. But building gentle wellness rituals gradually may be the key to building sustainable habits that really last.

✔️ Focus on Positive Rituals |

New Years Resolutions often focus on avoiding negative outcomes rather than working towards positive outcomes. Shifting the focus to the benefits of your new ritual means you’re more likely to stick to it. Try focusing on how the ritual makes you feel (e.g., strong, confident, grounded).

✔️ Get a Cheer Squad |

New rituals, even simple ones often mean a change to our daily routine. Sharing your intentions with your loved ones is a great way to feel supported, involve them and stay accountable. Several studies have shown that social support helps us achieve personal goals.

This can be as simple as telling your partner you are going to wake up earlier for a daily walk as a new morning ritual. Who knows, they may join you!

✔️ Connect with your Why |

Forming rituals that connect with our intrinsic why means they become an enjoyable part of our daily routine. Research shows that when goals are intrinsically motivated, they are more enjoyable, meaningful and we are more likely to achieve them.

💚Hydration

We all know that water intake is vital to looking and feeling our best. Optimal hydration impacts all aspects of our health from skin appearance to gut comfort to energy and cognitive function.

Hydration rituals can be fun and meaningful parts of our day. Try infusing a big pot of your favourite herbal tea each morning, invest in a stylish reusable water bottle, try adding different citrus or other fruits to your water, or track your intake to reach your hydration goals.

💚Daily Biotics

Probiotics, prebiotics and postbiotics can come from foods or supplements, and supplements are an easy way to get your daily dose of Biotics in one morning ritual.

GenBalance is a Biotic supplement combining probiotics, prebiotics and postbiotics in one portable sachet. Designed for daily use, each sachet contains proprietary biotic strains for gut, skin and immune health:

1.       HOWARU® HN019™ Bifidobacterium lactis HN019 (Probiotic) to relieve constipation and increase intestinal transit time.

2.       Probiotics that nourish and help promote beneficial gut flora.

3.       Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 (Postbiotic) to support skin health, relieve skin dryness and increase skin hydration.

4.       Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 to promote immune defences.

💚 Movement

Regular activity has far-reaching benefits for our physical and mental health. Movement rituals that are truly enjoyable and scheduled into your week are more likely to become a natural part of your daily routine - a sustainable habit that you can stick to long term.

I love variety and short low impact exercises like walking, Pilates and weight training. The shorter duration and intensity are less overwhelming and incredibly balancing. Try new activities and find movement you genuinely love that makes you feel good.

💚Bedtime Rituals

Good quality sleep is essential to look and feel our best.

We cycle through sleep phases each night with incredible physical healing occurring during the Deep Sleep Stage and emotional or cognitive enhancements taking place during the REM Sleep Stage.

To maximise time in restorative Deep and REM Sleep, try a Wind-Down Ritual that you complete every night before bed. Whether it’s setting social media boundaries (no screens after 8 PM), enjoying a strong chamomile tea, mindful breathing, reading, stretching (such as ‘Legs up the Wall Pose’), or turning off all overhead lights and illuminating with soft lamps or candles; having a wind-down ritual can relax your nervous system and be life-changing for sleep and wellbeing.
